Dolores bank gets Colo. fundsThe Dolores State Bank has been successful in its bid for State of Colorado funds to be deposited here beginning March 1st for the year according to Executive Vice President Don Majors. Majors said the Bank of Telluride, of which he is president, also was successful in their bid for state funds and will have Colorado money in the amount of $350,000 for one year at the bank in that city. The local bank will have a total of $400,000 in state funds and will pay the bid interest of 5.75 percent.
Bears No. 1By defeating the Mancos Blue Jays Friday, the Dolores Bears clinched first place in the league and ended their regular season Saturday evening with a 10-0 league record after an easy win over the Dove Creek Bull Dogs. Their overall record for the season stands at 17-1.
Pleasant winsTim Pleasant, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Pleasant, was named winner in the American Legion District Oratory Contest held Sunday afternoon in Alamosa. Tim is a senior at MCHS in Cortez and has been active in debate and speech there.
Biker shotSheepherder Rock McKrane has been bound over to District Court following a Feb. 17 preliminary hearing in San Miguel County courthouse. McKrane has been charged with first degree assault upon Patrick Swafford of Phoenix , Ariz. According to testimony, Swafford contends he was riding his trail bike on Sunshine Mesa when a sheepherder came out of his trailer and shot him, knocking him off his motorcycle. A Telluride physician said the entry wound was about 4 inches above the ankle and Swafford had lost 15-20 percent of his blood.
