For the Journal
The Cortez Public Library recently hosted a party to celebrate a full year of its Raising Readers Mentoring Program.
The library recognized volunteers, students, school district officials, teachers and the city of Cortez for all their hard work.
The program matches volunteers with students who need reading help in one-on-one tutoring sessions So far, the program has nine volunteers working in four schools and serving 17 students.
The library is starting its summer component of the program and will have tutors and students meet at the library for sessions. It also is getting a therapy dog and handler team component of the program off the ground.
If you are interested in joining this rewarding program please contact the library at 970-565-8117 and ask for Laura.
