A Durango woman has been cited with careless driving causing injury after hitting a bicyclist on Main Avenue.
The crash occurred at 5:49 p.m. Tuesday when Shannon Ruetschle, 23, turned right from west 29th Street to go south on Main Avenue, said Lt. Ray Shupe, spokesman with the Durango Police Department.
A 10-year-old boy was also stopped at the same intersection and proceeded to cross the road when he was struck by Ruetschle’s 2008 Dodge Durango, Shupe said.
“He wound up getting pinned underneath the vehicle and being dragged for about 25 feet,” he said.
The boy suffered bumps, bruises and road rash, Shupe said. He declined to release the boy’s name, saying he is a minor.
It was Shupe’s understanding the boy was treated and released at Mercy Regional Medical Center, but without a name, it was not possible to verify his condition Friday.
No drugs or alcohol are suspected in the crash.
“She just wasn’t paying attention and didn’t see him come off the sidewalk,” Shupe said.
