Montezuma County commissioners lifted the county burn ban this week, but that only applies to unincorporated areas in the county. The Town of Mancos ban on open fires and the use of fireworks is still in effect.
The town ordinance was instated in July 2013 and prohibits open fires, as well as fireworks, firecrackers, torpedoes, roman candles, skyrockets and other pyrotechnic displays. Charcoal and gas grills are allowed.
The ordinance is always in effect unless the Board of Trustees votes to lift it. They did so on July 4 so the town could put on an Independence Day show, but the ban was reinstated July 5.
