The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a freeze warning for Cortez from tonight to Tuesday morning.
Sub-freezing temperatures are possible between midnight tonight and 9 a.m. Tuesday, which could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, according to the weather service.
Overnight temperatures should range from about 20 in the higher valleys to lower 30s in the lower valleys.
Damage to crops and irrigation systems is possible. The weather service advises people to consider their pets’ safety.
A cold front moved into Eestern Colorado on Monday, causing scattered thunderstorms and strong winds in Cortez and surrounding areas. Highs in Cortez are expected to stay in the middle to high 50s for the rest of the week, with lows in the middle to high 30s.
