Two semi-trailers and a sedan were involved in the crash, which took place about 6:52 p.m. Saturday near the highway’s intersection with Montezuma County Road M, CSP Sgt. Rob Madden said. The driver of the sedan, a 40-year-old man, was transported to Southwest Memorial with injuries, but he was alert, Madden said.
Crews closed north- and southbound lanes of U.S. 491 for about two hours after the crash, reopening the road about 8:45 p.m. A hazmat team was called to the scene after crews initially thought there had been diesel fuel leakage, but it was determined that no diesel fuel had spilled, Madden said.
There was no evidence that alcohol was a factor in the crash, Madden said.
