Montezuma-Cortez seniors Coby Baer and Tanner Desrosiers have been honored by the Intermountain League following the 2016 season.
Baer was named first team all-conference and Desrosiers was all-conference honorable mention.
Baer started the season as a tailback, but he finished the Panthers’ final four games at quarterback.
He was the team’s leading rusher with 316 yards and a touchdown, compiled 488 yards passing and a touchdown, and recorded 180 yards receiving with 3 TDs.
Defensively, he was second on the team in tackles with 65, and he was also honored by the IML as a punter.
“Just a stand-up leader,” head coach Scott Conklin said of Baer. “He gave me 100 percent no matter where we put him. He was our leading tailback, and he was doing really well with receiving yards also, and then he finished sixth in the league in passing. Between his rushing, receiving and passing yards he was at almost 1000 yards.”
Desrosiers also stood out on both sides of the ball for the Panthers.
Although defense was his calling card – he led the team in tackles with 86 and finished fifth in the league – he also became an integral part of the team’s passing game, finishing second on the team in receiving with 268 yards and 2 TDs.
“He definitely brought leadership and intensity during practice and on the field,” said Conklin. “And he actually wound up second on our team in receiving. The last four or five games he was one of our main targets.”
