A public discussion about the problem of outpatient antibiotic use will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Sunflower Theatre in Cortez.
The discussion focuses on “how we can improve with the Core Elements of Outpatient Antibiotic Stewardship,” according to a news release.
It will be led by Dr. Katherine Fleming-Dutra, a pediatric emergency physician and a medical epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Fleming-Dutra trained in pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and in 2010 joined CDC as an epidemic intelligence service officer, assigned to the respiratory diseases branch in the division of bacterial diseases, where she investigated outbreaks of bacterial respiratory diseases. After completing a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Emory University, Fleming-Dutra returned to CDC in 2015 as a medical epidemiologist in the Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work program. Her areas of concentration include outpatient and pediatric antibiotic stewardship.
The Sunflower Theatre is at 8 E. Main St. in Cortez. Doors close at 6:15 p.m. for recording purposes. Heavy appetizers provided by Southwest Health System at the Loungin’ Lizard from 5-6 p.m. at 2 W. Main St.
