MONDAY, MARCH 14
An officer observed a minivan traveling westbound on Main Street with the side door open. As the vehicle got closer, someone inside the van shut the door. The officer pulled the vehicle over and explained the reason for the stop. The driver apologized and said that the door sticks sometimes. The officer noticed that there was a small child in a car seat in the middle row of the minivan. There was another adult male sitting next to the child who said that he was the one who had closed the door. When questioned about his identity, he gave a name that returned two active warrants for someone with a similar name. He denied that the name on the warrants was his name, but when he provided his date of birth, it matched the date on the warrants. He finally admitted to be the person named on the warrants and was taken into custody. He was left in the care and custody of jail staff.
MONDAY, MARCH 21
Officers were dispatched to the parking lot of Front Row Seat to a report of a fight in progress. An officer spoke with a woman who had been sitting in the passenger side of her husbands pickup truck to sell firewood when a man and women pulled up in front of the truck with their van. The man approached the truck and asked where their firewood was. The woman in the truck explained to the officer that there had been a deal with the couple to trade firewood for a couch, but that the deal had gone bad. The male from the van allegedly climbed up into the back of the truck, and threw the pickup owners tool box onto the ground, scattering the tools and breaking the box. The woman from the van then made a threatening statement through the window to the woman sitting in the truck, and then the couple got back into their van and left. The officers then went to the residence of the couple involved in the altercation. The male denied knowledge of the incident, but admitted that there was a deal to trade a couch for a cord of wood, and that the wood had never been delivered. The officers left the scene and, based on the statements made and physical evidence, made a determination to seek a warrant to be issued to the second couple for the charges of disturbing the peace and destruction of private property.
Two officers responded to Denny Lake Park for a report of an assault that had just taken place. Dispatch advised that the suspect had left the scene on a bicycle. The victim was sitting in her car, crying, and told officers that the male suspect had knocked out her tooth. She showed a part of the tooth in her hand. The officer noticed a cut on the inside of her upper lip and that one of her front teeth were broken. The victim stated that she and a male friend had been driving and had run out of gas. A car stopped to help them, and drove her friend to go buy gas. While she was waiting, she received a call from the suspect, who began yelling at her when he learned where she was. Her friend arrived with the fuel, and verified the events that followed. The suspect showed up a few minutes later, threw his bike on the ground, and yelled at the victim, yanked her door open and hit her in the face with his closed fist. The victim also complained of neck pain. Medical personnel responded to the scene and expressed an opinion that she be seen at the emergency room. The victim refused transport in the ambulance but allowed the officer to drive her there, where she was admitted and also checked for possible rib and back injury. As of Monday, police were attempting to locate the suspect.
