Dear Editor:
In an May 19 editorial, Voting on taxes: Ballot measure may mean money for schools, you suggested that the campaign for Sen. Rollie Heaths school funding measure should try to generate support in the far-flung portions of the state, not just the Denver area. I want to let your readers know that is indeed happening here in our corner of Colorado. I have been seeking signatures for a petition to help get Initiative 25 on the ballot. As an educator, Ive seen firsthand how budget cuts have been hurting our schools and threatening our fragile economy.
The campaign has also done something that no other campaign has done before in Colorado it has made petitions available online for download. Anyone in any part of Colorado can download a petition at www.brightcolorado.com, gather signatures and return it by mail to the campaign. In addition, I am available to talk with any group in the Cortez area about the value of Initiative 25 and what others can do to help make sure it gets on the ballot. I can be reached at khphelps@centurytel.net.
Thanks for your support of this critical ballot initiative,
Kay Phelps
