Reservation dogs need love, too, and make terrific and loyal pets. This 8-month-old Australian shepherd was found on the reservation in Utah. He is playful and high-energy, but will calm down well for you. He has a nice disposition and is extremely smart. This fellow is multicolored; he is predominantly blue, with red markings and a white chest. This beautiful dog and lots of other young dogs and puppies are available for adoption at the Cortez Animal Shelter, 2791 E. Main St. A reminder: The Fourth of July holiday is a very frightening time for animals. Many pets panic and run away from home during fireworks displays. Please keep your pets inside and secure during the Fourth of July festivities to avoid heartbreak the next day. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and open every other Friday. The shelter will be open this Friday. This week, the shelter needs Pedigree or Purina adult dog food, Iams puppy chow, laundry detergent, dish soap, paper towels and bleach. Also, the shelter desperately needs dog treats, rawhides, pig ears and rubber dog toys to occupy our dogs’ time. For more information, call the shelter at 565-4910.
