This Friday, April Fools Day, is the opening day of several talented Mancos womens exhibits.

Market St. The show opens on April 1 with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Demons and Deities is a visual exploration of the sacred, the profane and the space between.
Arborena is the place to see the work of Rosie Carter on April 1. The artists reception is from 6 to 9 p.m. Her show is called The Rural Underground: New Dimensional Work by Rosie Carter. It will be on display until May 2. Also on display will be the work of Kelly Horrigan, leather goods, and Nicholas Bernard, pottery.
April 1 is also the re-opening of the Arborena after its winter hiatus. It is located at 114 Grand Ave., Mancos. Call 533-1381 for reservations.
Mancos photographer Patricia Burk will show her work at two different venues next month. The first will be at the Spruce Tree Coffee House in Cortez. The artists reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. April 7. Burk will feature scenic landscapes of the Four Corners region and the people and culture of Oaxaca, Mexico. Spruce Tree is located at 318 E. Main, Cortez.
Burk also will be part of an exhibit at the Rochester Hotel in Durango starting March 26 and going until April 24. The reception will be on April 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Rochester Hotel lobby. Joining Burk will be Linda Pampinella, Branson Reynolds, Howard Rachlin, Kathy Myrick and Al Olson.
Barbara Stewart-Hager, also a Mancos resident, will show her bird photography during April at Desert Pearl Gallery, 40 W. Main St., Cortez. The show, entitled Flight Songs A Celebration of Birds, features a variety of bird species photographed mostly in the Four Corners area. Birds are intensely interesting creatures, and they can be seen behaving in many different ways, from dramatic to comedic. Stewart-Hager has chosen a selection of her photographs which attempt to portray the variety of bird species around us, as well as some of their interesting, often amusing behavior. She has been interested in birds for many years, but only since moving to Mancos has she had an opportunity to view and photograph many of them.
Stewart-Hagers professional career as a violinist/pianist/composer/educator has influenced her photography. As a nod to that connection, she has written a piano composition also entitled Flight Songs to accompany the photographs displayed at the show. She hopes that the combination of photographs and music will combine to create a multisensory artistic experience. A recording, which also includes several of Barbaras other compositions, will play in the background during the artists reception, which is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, at Desert Pearl Gallery.
