Rufus, the boy with a winning smile, is an 8-month-old boxer-heeler mix. He is super sweet, playful and outgoing; he is great with other dogs. He has been at the shelter since the end of May, and his time is up. He needs a fenced yard and kids or other dogs to play with, or someone who will take him on regular walks or hikes. This happy, gregarious dog and other potential companions are available at the Cortez Animal Shelter, 2791 E. Main St. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and open every other Friday. The shelter will be open this Friday. This week, the shelter really, desperately needs Iams kitten food both wet and/or dry. They also need Pedigree or Purina adult dog food, Iams puppy chow, original Pine-Sol solution (pine-scented), and Lysol cleaning solution for mopping floors.
