Special Olympics Bowling
The Cortez Special Olympics state bowling tournament is in Denver on Friday, Nov. 11. Donations and fundraising contribute to travel expenses for the state bowling tournament, as well as travel expenses in other sports. The Cortez Special Olympics bowling team is currently selling pizzas door-to-door for fundraising, and will hold a farmers market fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Cortez Farmers Market. Stillwater Foundation Baseball Tryouts
The Stillwater Foundation is forming two baseball teams for high school freshmen and sophomores to play in the spring and summer of 2012. Tryouts will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon at the La Plata County Fairgrounds fields in Durango. Teams will participate in the highest-level regional and national tournaments. Ute Mountain Rec. Basketball Fall League
The Ute Mountain Recreation Center in Towaoc will begin its fall basketball league season on Tuesday, Oct. 18. The championship tournament will be in mid December. Entry fee is $255 (includes league play and tournament) and a $100 deposit is due by Tuesday, Oct. 11. Jackets will be given to the champions, MVP awards presented, and All-Stars will be selected.
