A local woman has been sentenced to jail for embezzling more than $143,000 while working at Sparks Plumbing and Heating in Cortez.
Jane Presnell, 50, pleaded guilty to theft of more than $20,000 and was sentenced Oct. 4 by District Judge Todd Plewe to 60 days in jail, four years probation, and 50 hours of useful public service.
The embezzlement occurred between April of 2008 and January of this year, when company owners discovered the money missing.
In addition to her sentence, Presnell must pay restitution in an amount to be set later this month, submit to random drug and alcohol testing, and must not contact the victims in the case.
Presnell could not be reached for comment before deadline Friday.
