The John Jorgenson Quintet will perform at the second concert of the Southwest Colorado Concerts winter concert series on Monday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. at the Montezuma-Cortez High School Auditorium.
The groups style is gypsy jazz, the dynamic swing music created by Django Reinhardt in the 1930s.
Dave McCarty of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine has called Grammy-award winner John Jorgenson not just Americas finest proponent of this exceptionally demanding flatpicking guitar style, but one of the worlds truly great artists in the Gypsy-jazz genre. During his career, Jorgenson has played with artists as diverse as Sting, Luciano Pavarotti, Earl Scruggs, Barbra Streisand, and Benny Goodman. He is an A-List session player working in Los Angeles, Nashville and London and has appeared on numerous platinum-selling and Grammy-winning CDs. Each member of the John Jorgenson Quintet, consisting of lead and rhythm guitar, violin, bass and drums, is a virtuoso, yet the music is very accessible, melodic and appealing.
Southwest Colorado Concerts will present two additional concerts this season: Bottom Line Duo, one of only three internationally touring bass and cello duos in history, in March 2012 and closing in May with Redhead Express, featuring a wide variety of bluegrass, traditional, Irish and old-timey music along with clogging and family comedy. Season tickets will be available at the door on November 21 for $45 for adults and $5 for youths 18 years old and under. Season tickets also provide entry to concerts in Gallup, N.M., and Delta, Colo., at no additional charge. Single concert tickets will be available at the door as well for $20 for adults and $5 for youths. Come early to purchase tickets; doors open at 6:30 p.m.
