A pile of copper at the property that had recently had people stealing from it had been fitted with an alarm that was tripped. After the arrival of another deputy with a canine, they began a search of the property. The dog led the deputies from the area of the copper to the parked SUV. When they looked in the rear seat of the vehicle, they observed a man they recognized lying down with a black ski mask on his head. He was also wearing work gloves and a heavy jacket. There was a pile of stripped copper in the back of the SUV that appeared to match the copper in the pile at the business. The copper had been covered with a jacket. When the suspect was asked what he was doing, he stated that he was just hanging out. After admitting that he had taken the copper to sell to local businesses that buy it, said that he didnt think it was going to hurt anything to take some copper wire. The suspect denied taking any in the past, and said that a friend of his told him where the copper was. The suspects shoe prints matched the shoe prints left after the previous copper theft at the location. He admitted to using methamphetamine the previous day. The suspect at the address was known to operate under many aliases, many different dates of birth, and many different Social Security numbers. He was wanted for multiple misdemeanor and felony warrants out of South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, and Kansaw for various fraud offenses. Dispatch advised that they had a multitude of aliases and warrants for the suspect. The suspect provided the deputy with a name that turned out to be false, and claimed that he didnt have his drivers license on him. He entered the residence as if to go get his license. When the suspect failed to return, the suspects girlfriend told him that he had gone upstairs to use the restroom, and was told that the suspect had provided an alias to the deputy to avoid being arrested on warrants. The girlfriend gave deputies permission to enter the house to search it. They found an open window and that the screen had been pulled off of a window on the east side of the residence that indicated that the suspect had left through the window. A canine search was unsuccessful at locating the suspect. Once located, the suspect will be charged with criminal impersonation and obstructing a peace officer.
