Dear Editor:
Its certainly ironic to hear our so-called leaders in D.C. bemoan the corruption that seems to prevail in the government of Afghanistan. Our federal government (both parties) is probably the most corrupt on the face of the planet, and we have the nerve to criticize another country.
The recent revelation of the government lending $583 million unsecured dollars to Solyndra to produce solar panels that were not proven is a good example of corruption. Why would our beloved leader in the White House allow that kind of money to be loaned to a company with such a shaky background? Because he received large campaign donations from the CEO of Solyndra. That is truly an innovative way to raise campaign money: Use taxpayer money via the back door.
The corrupt nature of campaign finance in this country is the root cause of most of our problems. It can only be corrected by a constitutional amendment that would restrict Congress and the president to one six-year term. But, the Supreme Court ruled years ago that was unconstitutional. One term would put most of the special interests and lobbyists out of business. Being restricted to one term would also carry a prohibition on any outside income for holders of federal office; violation would be a felony.
Politicians say that term limits would cause the loss of invaluable years of experience. Look at our present corrupt mess and you see what comes with experience.
The people in Congress and the White House care about one thing: themselves. They care not a bit about the future of the country or its citizens. When the country collapses into financial ruin and anarchy, maybe enough people will get aroused to remove and change our government by whatever means necessary.
