Dems win fight for districts

Some win, others lose district fight

WINNERS

Democrats in general: The courts picked the map that gives Democrats a chance to win one or two more of Colorado’s seven districts. Currently, they are at a 3-4 disadvantage.
U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner, R-Yuma: The freshman’s conservative district gets even safer for him.
The City of Aurora: The big Denver suburb becomes the third city to get its own congressional district, behind Denver and Colorado Springs.

LOSERS

Rep. Mike Coffman, R-Aurora: His safe conservative district vaults to near the top of the Democrats’ national hit list.
State Sen. Brandon Shaffer, D-Longmont: The challenger to Gardner now faces a much steeper task in winning on the Eastern Plains.

WE’LL SEE

U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Cortez, and his challenger, state Rep. Sal Pace, D-Pueblo: The Western Slope district changes little for these two, with a slight GOP plurality.
State Rep. Joe Miklosi, D-Denver: Currently the only challenger to Coffman, Miklosi might have to fight off a top-tier Democratic candidate — possibly Andrew Romanoff — now that the district is winnable for his party.
