The local high school track and field teams competed at the rescheduled Pine River Invitational in Bayfield on a cold, windswept Thursday afternoon at Bayfield High School.
New Mexicos Kirtland Central and Aztec won the girls and boys team championships with 111 and 88.5 points respectively. Other team finishes on the girls side saw Dolores, Montezuma-Cortez High School, Dove Creek and Mancos finish sixth, eighth, 14th and 16th with 63, 43, seven and three points.
Amanda Gallegos and Ashley Lingo led M-CHS with first-place finishes in the 400-meter dash (67.12) and discus throw (126-06). Carly Wolf placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:45.89 and Laura Heaton came in second in the shot put with a toss of 33-03. Former M-CHS thrower Kim McKnight won the shot put for Kirtland Central with her distance of 34-00.50. The 800-sprint medley relay team of Gallegos, Rachel Rime, Imari Black and Wolf took second place with a time of 2:00.84.
For Dolores, Lexi Atkinson had another strong outing with second- and fourth-place finishes of 12.98 and 15-05.75 in the 100-meter and long jump events. Teammate Cassie Lard was second in the triple jump (33-01.25) and sixth in the 200-meter (28.23). Cydney McHenry came in fourth and sixth place in the 300- and 110-meter hurdles, recording times of 51.47 and 17.54. Mindy McCracken, Rachel Beverlin and Alex Willis were fifth, fifth and seventh in the long jump (15-04), 1,600-meter run (6:17.10) and 3,200-meter run (14:23.46). The 4 x 200-meter relay team of Atkinson, McHenry, Lard and McCracken was third in 1:50.48.
Kia Baikie and Devin Kroeker were seventh and eighth in the 3,200 and high jump for Mancos with finishes of 14:27.45 and J4-06.
Kyli Banks led Dove Creek with a discus throw of 106-04 that was good for fifth-place.
For the boys, M-CHS was fourth as a team with 73 points, and Mancos and Dolores tied for 13th with 17 points apiece. Dove Creek did not place.
Corey Adams paced the Panthers with the top leap in the triple jump (40-08) and placed third in the high jump (5-08). Adams had a strong day in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles as well taking fourth-and-sixth-place in times of 16.22 and 44.33. Max Demby was tops in the long jump at 21-00, and took third in the 100-meter at 11.51. William Wright and Brady Yates were fifth and sixth in the 200-meter finishing in 23.77 and 24.00. James Sprague was second and fifth in the 800-meter run and 400-meter at 2:17.01 and 55.48. Wrangler Hinton finished fifth-place in the discus with a heave of 125-08. The 4 x 200-relay team of Demby, Destry Smith, Wright and Yates was first-place with the finish of 1:36.53.
For Dolores, Alex Bernholtz took fourth-place in the 300-hurdles with a time of 43.73, Michael Neubert was seventh in the triple jump at 37-09.75, Stephen OConnor-Seville took seventh in the 100-meter finishing 11.73 and Ethan Schwartz placed eighth in the 800-meter run with his time of 2:26.24. The 4 x 400-relay team of Bernholtz, Neubert, OConnor-Seville and Schwartz finished third at 3:49.02.
Mancos got fourth and sixth-place efforts from Branson Mitchell in the 400-meter at 55.44, and Troy Gordanier jumped 5-06 in the high jump. The 4 x 800-relay team of Eric Lewis, Emilio Marquez, Brandon McKie and Sean Small came in fourth-place with a time of 9:12.14.
M-CHS, Dolores, Mancos and Dove Creek will all be at the Ron Keller Invitational at Durango High School today beginning at 9 a.m.
