Dear Editor:
My respect for and faith in the people of Montezuma County has been restored.
After reporting last week about someone stealing our Christmas tree right out of our backyard (Dec. 3 letters to the editor), we have had numerous calls offering help and support. No, the thief did not bring back either the tree or the stand. Only part of Dr. Seusss story has been duplicated.
We have had many generous offers for replacements, including area landowners inviting us to cut a tree on their property, for the use of four-wheel-drive vehicles, for the use of an artificial tree, and an invitation from City Market for a free tree. We were able to get a good-quality tree stand from one of the thrift stores. We express our gratitude for all of these kind overtures. The true spirit of Christmas is alive and well. There is peace, joy and goodwill in this part of the world.
