Trenton Gustafson won his first wrestling tournament title, as three other Panthers medaled on Saturday at the Delta High School tournament.
Gustafson, a senior, pinned his way to the championship at 182 pounds. He went 4-0 last week starting with a first round pin over Kyle Collins of Delta on Friday.
Montezuma-Cortez High School faced the Delta Panthers Friday in a dual meet. The home team defeated M-CHS, 60-24.
Levi Gross, Ryan Daves and Segar Oliver notched pins for M-CHS over David Brown, Juan Campos and Hunter Brasfield at 113, 132 and 145 pounds to round out Fridays score.
On Saturday, Gustafson (9-2) continued his onslaught. He pinned Alejandro Medina, Clayon Coombs and Cole Caywood of Delta, Rifle and Cedaredge to claim first-place.
Daves placed second with a 2-1 mark. He suffered his first loss of the season in the championship match to Zach Shank, of Olathe, by a 12-1 major decision.
Gross took third, rebounding strong with three straight wins after being pinned his first match by Olathes Trenton Piatt.
Oliver had the busiest day, posting a 3-2 record, which was good for fourth. The freshman had two pins and is now 11-2 on the season.
Justice Ramos went 1-2 at 126 pounds with a third round pin over Grand Valleys Ricardo Malta.
M-CHS will wrestle Friday and Saturday at the Grand Junction Central, Warrior Classic, beginning at 9 a.m. each day.
