TUESDAY, DEC. 13
An officer met with a reporting party at the lobby of the police department in reference to a welfare check. A woman there stated that her granddaughter was heavily intoxicated that day and was unable to take care of her two children, and that the granddaughters mother was currently at her residence watching the children. The officer went to speak with the granddaughter. Dispatch advised that she had earlier called dispatch saying that her mother and grandmother were attempting to take her children away. When the officer spoke with her, she said that her mother and grandmother busted into her apartment and kicked her friends out. She showed several signs of intoxication, and when asked if she had been drinking, she said that she had but that she was not drunk. When asked if she felt like she could take care of her children being as intoxicated as she was, she said that she had two friends over who were sober. When asked if she normally had friends come over to watch her children while she drank, she said that her friends had been drinking also, but that they were not nearly as drunk as she was. When the officer spoke with the womans mother, she said that she had become concerned when her daughter had come into her place of work with the two kids and two other heavily intoxicated people, because someone had driven them all to the location while in that state. She called her daughters grandmother and asked that she report this to the police while she went over to make sure the kids were OK. Several empty shot glasses were observed on the coffee table in the living room by where the children, ages 2 and 1, were playing. The daughter agreed to let her mother take care of her children until she was sober enough to. Social services was contacted in reference to this matter.
An officer observed an adult male dog that he recognized running at large. He followed it to some property, and when he arrived, the dog became protective of the property and began to bark and growl. The officer contacted the dogs owner residing at the property. The owner admitted that it was her fault that her dog was at large, saying that she had gone outside to smoke and had let the dog out. She had then gone back inside, and left the dog outside.
SUNDAY, DEC. 18
Several officers reported to an alley downtown for a report of a possible fight. They observed a large group of people gathered, and two female subjects entangled on the ground actively fighting, with several male subjects standing nearby watching them. As the officers approached, the viewers began to scatter. One officer stayed with a woman on the ground whose face was bleeding, while some went after the others. The other female combatant was caught, along with a male from the scene. She told the officer that they were partying together, when the other woman started acting up and threw a 40-ounce bottle at her, grazing her head. She said that she became very upset and chased the other woman down the alley to fight with her. An officer with the other woman involved informed that she had suffered a cut to her nose and did not want to pursue any charges, and was being very belligerent and rude. She refused treatment from medics at the scene. The two females were taken into custody for fighting in public (disturbing the peace). The male subjects who were watching the fight were advised to go home. Both women admitted to drinking, but the woman who had thrown the bottle was a lot more intoxicated than the other. She was being very uncooperative at the jail, cursing at officers and refusing to provide any information or allow her injuries to be photographed. Both were left in the care and custody of jail staff.
Three officers responded to a residence for a report of domestic violence. A child was the 911 caller and stated that their mom was hitting their dad. As an officer arrived on scene, dispatch advised that the wife was wanted on a felony warrant for larceny; she was immediately placed under arrest. She said that if she had to go to jail that her husband should as well because he was hitting her, and that he had choked her a few nights ago. She reported that they are going through a nasty divorce. The husband spoke with officers and said that his wife had shown up at his work and caused a huge scene because of the divorce. When she came by to pick up some bills that were in her name, she began tearing things off the walls, and ended up punching the husband in the chest twice and slapping him across the face. A child had witnessed the entire incident and confirmed the husbands version of events. The husband was reluctant to have anything done, and said that he just wants his wife to leave him alone. The wife was transported to jail and was issued a summons for harassment and for domestic violence.
An officer was dispatched in regards to a dog attack on a cat. A person at the scene was holding a tabby cat on the ground. There was blood on the cats paws and mouth, and the cats jaw was off to one side and appeared broken. He said that a man was walking a pit bull dog without a leash. The man was heard and seen urging the dog to get em/sick em/kill em about the cats, and the dog chased and grabbed a cat under the reporting partys trailer. He said that he crawled under the trailer and dragged the dog and cat out, and got them separated. He said he was angry at the dogs owner for letting the dog walk around without a leash, and the dogs owner threatened him, saying that he would kill him if he reported this to the police. The owner had been observed several times walking this dog without a leash. The man said that he thought the cat might be a stray. Another witness confirmed the story, and said that he was afraid for his children, especially since the owner is teaching it to chase and kill animals. The dogs owner was located and issued a summons for not having a license, for having an animal that disturbs the peace, and for keeping a vicious animal. The dogs owner was warned not to speak to the reporting party or to threaten him about this incident. The injured cat had to be euthanized due to the extremity of its injuries.
MONDAY, DEC. 19
An officer reported to Walmart for the report of a theft. Staff told the officer that a customer had her wallet stolen while checking out. The woman told the officer that she had finished checking out, left her wallet on the counter and walked off. When she realized what had happened, she returned to the counter, but the wallet was gone. She contacted management and told them that she remembered that there was an older female in line behind her. Using the surveillance system, management was able to pull up the transaction and observe the events as they happened. The video showed her leaving her wallet on the counter. The person behind her is a large female who stepped up as her groceries were being scanned. The female then calmly grabbed the wallet and put it in her cart. When it was time for the female suspect to pay, she looked through the stolen wallet, then put it down and got into her own purse and paid for the groceries. The female suspect then left the store. The woman to whom the wallet belonged said it had contained no cash but did have four credit cards, which she had already cancelled, and other identification. Management was able to look at the video and track the female suspect walking to her car, but she did not throw the wallet away, and drove away before employees could get to her car. It is believed that the female suspect paid for her groceries with a debit or credit card, and store management will be able to provide the suspects identifying information to authorities.
