DENVER Call it the Make my day better again bill.
Colorado long ago adopted a make my day law, which allows homeowners to claim self-defense when using deadly force against a burglar in their houses.
Republicans have tried several times to extend the bill to business owners, an idea dubbed make my day better. They are back again this year with House Bill 1088.
Twenty Republicans including J. Paul Brown of Ignacio and Don Coram of Montrose have put their names on the bill, along with Democrat Wes McKinley of Coledale (west of Canon City).
It was introduced in the House on Tuesday, and it is one of a handful of gun bills on the Legislatures agenda this year.
Republicans also introduced a bill Tuesday to allow people to carry concealed weapons without a permit if they have clean criminal records.
HB 1092 mirrors the language of Senate Bill 25, which was introduced last week. A similar measure failed last year.
Also Tuesday, Democrats introduced HB 1091, which would eliminate standardized tests that are not required by the federal government.
Colorado currently requires children to take more tests than the federal No Child Left Behind law requires. HB 1091 would direct the money saved by doing fewer tests to preschool programs. A similar bill failed last year.
