Cortez Writers’ Group is hosting an open mic night at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Cortez Cultural Center.
“We are thrilled to be able to do this,” Sharon Crites, a long-time member of the Writers’ Group, said.
Anyone is welcome to attend. The group invites anyone to bring a short story, poem or excerpt of original writing to read.
“We’d love to have people not only do that, but feel free to come to our Writers’ Group to see if they’d like to become part of us,” Crites said.
Cortez Writers’ Group meets at 6:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of each month in the dining room of the First United Methodist Church of Cortez, 515 N. Park St.
Bobby and Nancy Cole, Crites, George Lyons, Mary Marks and Stan Morris will be performing readings.
Refreshments will be provided at the open mic night.
Goldie Fowler, owner of the former Quality Book Store on Main Street, and Anita Tanner created Cortez Writers’ Group about 25 years ago, according to Crites.
