Update: Lightner Creek Fire 95 percent contained

Fire consumes 412 acres; residents allowed to go home
The Lightner Creek Fire was 89 percent contained by Sunday morning.
Boy scouts Ezekial “Zeke” Swilley, left, and Ryan Behrends with Troop 501 load water into a truck. Water and other supplies left over from the Lightner Creek Fire response at the Escalante Middle School evacuation center will help restore the Red Cross supply and be donated to other nonprofits, such as the Durango Food Bank. The shelter closed Sunday at about 10 a.m. after everyone living near the fire was allowed to return home. The troop contacted the Red Cross and let them know they were interested in volunteering earlier in the week, Scout Master Rob Kolter said. “I felt this was a perfect opportunity for the scouts to be active in our community,” he said.
