Hovenweep and Natural Bridges National Monuments are seeking teachers for their summer Teacher to Ranger to Teacher Program (TRT).
The National Park Service TRT Program links teachers from predominantly low income schools with diverse student populations with national parks throughout the country, according to a news release from the National Park Service. Under the TRT Program, selected teachers spend eight weeks during the summer working as park rangers performing duties such as presenting interpretive programs, staffing visitor center information desks, developing curriculum-based materials for the parks, or completing special projects.
Upon returning to the classroom, Teacher Rangers share their park experience with students by developing and presenting curriculum-based lesson plans that explore topics related to natural and cultural resources of the park in which they worked. During National Park Week in April, Teacher Rangers wear their National Park Service uniforms to school, discuss their summer working as a park ranger, and engage students and other teachers in activities that relate to Americas national parks.
Teachers interested in applying for one of the TRT positions at Hovenweep or Natural Bridges National Monuments are asked to email their resumes (with at least two professional references listed) to todd_overbye@nps.gov. Resumes may also be faxed to Todds attention at 970-562-4283. Please specify which of the two national monuments you are applying for in your resume. Applications must be received by Saturday, Feb. 25.
