Painted Turtle Studio is changing things around soon. They will still be offering many of the same classes they have in the past, but many of their classes will be just one evening, instead of a series of classes.
The best part of the studio is the 12-year-old African desert tortoise that you can see when you go in there, named Sweetie. She usually stays in an open crate in the front, but occasionally you will see her wandering around the studio. Shes our new artist-in-residence, said Sarah Allen, owner of the studio. These kinds of tortoises live to be 100 years old, she said.
They still have their Wild Women Wednesdays on the first Wednesday of each month. Women can come and work on whatever they have in progress, enjoy the friendship and frivolity of being in a group. The Open Clay Studio is still on the first Friday of the month, where anyone can come and create something from clay. Both of these classes are in the evening.
Our prices for the classes run from $28 to $38 per class, said Allen. And you get a complementary glass of wine!
A glass fusing class is from 1 to 4 pm. on the last Saturday of the month, and they have just started a social night on the third Friday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. This will be a time to exchange ideas, network and collaborate on things, said Allen, who organizes the classes.
In the works are several other classes. Color theory will be taught by Brad Goodell; drawing, taught by Goodell and Kim Sheek, who will also have a class in mosaics; clay hand-building, which will be taught by Janet Lever-Wood; and a journal-making class by Midge Kirk.
We would like to know what people are interested in, said Allen. If there is something that youd like to learn that you think the studio might be able to help out with, give them a call.
Their hours, which are Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. right now, will change in mid-March to Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
Also, during Spring break - March 26 - 30 - there will be a week-long class for kids.
