Montezuma County commissioners granted approval for weed manager Bonnie Loving to pursue enforcement actions against three properties infested with weeds.
The owners have been sent letters informing them they are in violation of county policy to control noxious weeds, but have not responded. In one case, the landowner is irrigating a field of weeds. Under Colorado law, the county has the authority to enter private properties with pervasive weed issues to control them, then charge the property owner.
“I feel sorry for those who control their weeds and have their crop contaminated because of irresponsible neighbors,” Loving said.
