A suspect is in custody after bomb threats were reportedly called in Tuesday. The Cortez Walmart was evacuated after 2 p.m. for approximately 40 minutes. Occupants who huddled in the parking lot said they were told to evacuate because of an emergency.
Cortez Police Chief Roy Lane said no explosives were found at the store.
Everybody did a good job, he said.
Police also checked the 22nd Judicial District Attorneys Office, then responded to a residence in the 500 block of North Chestnut Street, where a man was taken into custody. Occupants of the home said they did not know what was going on, other than the man had thrown a backpack into their yard. The backpack was searched by police before the mans arrest. Police say no further threat is perceived at this time.
No further information was available Tuesday afternoon.
