Monday, Aug. 7

8:42 p.m.: Deputies assisted Bureau of Indian Affairs agents in trying to apprehend two suspects in an assault in Towaoc after a sedan that matched their vehicle’s description was seen in the 4000 block of County Road 21. When deputies attempted to pull over the vehicle, the driver reportedly refused to stop, leading deputies on a high-speed chase until they were advised to stop pursuit in the 18000 block of County Road G. During the chase, the suspect vehicle reportedly ran over and killed a dog on County Road 21. Deputies and BIA agents were unable to positively identify the driver and passenger they saw in the vehicle, so no warrants were issued. The case remains under investigation.

Wednesday, Aug. 9

11:26 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Court, 601 N. Mildred Road, on two warrants for failure to comply and failure to appear.

3:32 p.m.: A woman was arrested on a warrant at Montezuma County District Court, 109 W. Main St.

9:14 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 2000 block of U.S. Highway 160 on suspicion of driving under restraint and failing to drive in a single lane.

Thursday, Aug. 10

1:40 a.m.: A woman was issued a verbal warning for driving with a defective headlight and failing to display a license plate in the 3000 block of U.S. Highway 160. When a passenger in her vehicle presented a Mexican identification card and responding deputies reportedly noticed several items in the vehicle consistent with those carried by members of certain Mexican drug cartels, they called in a K-9 unit to check the vehicle for illegal substances. Two boxes of AK-47 ammunition were found in the vehicle, but the search reportedly turned up no firearms or illegal drugs.

2:47 p.m.: A man was transported from Montezuma County Detention Center to the emergency room at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, to be treated for a serious medical issue. While being cleared by hospital staff, the man reportedly became verbally aggressive and went into a fighting stance, leading deputies to tackle him to the floor, where he continued to kick and struggle. The man reportedly received a small cut on his head during the incident, and was given additional medical attention by hospital staff.

3:59 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 1 block of North Chestnut Street on suspicion of driving while his license was revoked as a habitual traffic offender.

5:32 p.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 2100 block of South Broadway on suspicion of driving under restraint and failing to clearly display license plates.

7:50 p.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 6000 block of U.S. Highway 160 on suspicion of speeding and driving under restraint.

8:56 p.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 5000 block of U.S. Highway 160 on suspicion of failing to display headlights and driving under restraint. A marijuana pipe and a pocket scale were found in his vehicle, and he reportedly told deputies he had bought some marijuana to bring home to Gallup, New Mexico. He reportedly showed no signs of being under the influence, but the responding deputy warned him about laws on marijuana possession in New Mexico.

Friday, Aug. 11

1:09 p.m.: A woman came to the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office, 730 E. Driscoll St., to report the theft of a food stamp card. She claimed the card, which was worth about $247.15 at local stores, had gone missing and had been used to make unauthorized purchases at Walmart, City Market and Riverside Convenience Store between Aug. 4 and 11. The case remains under investigation.

Saturday, Aug. 12

3:12 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 40000 block of U.S. Highway 160, Mancos, on suspicion of domestic violence, third-degree assault and a protection order violation after witnesses reported he had been yelling and hitting his girlfriend in their residence. His girlfriend, who reportedly sustained noticeable bruises on her face, was also arrested on suspicion of a protection order violation. The man reportedly charged aggressively at a deputy during the booking process at the jail, leading the deputy to push him down on onto a bench. His girlfriend reportedly said she did not want to press charges at first, but later said she would be willing to testify against the man, saying the fight was the sixth time he had beaten her.

3:07 p.m.: A woman was issued a summons in the 22000 block of County Road 31, Dolores, on suspicion of careless driving after she allegedly crashed into a tree while driving too fast around a corner.
