4:29 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of bears entering trash dumpsters near Dolores School, 207 N. 12th St., Dolores. A deputy reportedly found one bear crossing the nearby street and fired a rubber bullet at it, causing it to run out of town.
12:22 p.m.: A man was served with two warrants for failure to appear and failure to comply at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
4:59 p.m.: A woman was served with a warrant for failure to appear on a child abuse charge at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
Friday, Aug. 25
11:22 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 8000 block of County Road 25 on a Montrose County warrant for failure to appear, after he was pulled over for failing to stop at a stop sign.
Saturday, Aug. 26
12:54 a.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 28000 block of U.S. Highway 160 on suspicion of reckless endangerment and prohibited use of a weapon after a woman claimed he had shot at her house and grazed her in the leg while she was lying in bed. The man, whose residence was adjacent to the woman’s, claimed he had accidentally discharged his gun in his bedroom by sitting on it. Deputies confiscated an AR-15 rifle loaded with an 18-round magazine and an additional round in the chamber, and a Smith and Wesson revolver loaded with five rounds, after they found the weapons in the man’s bedroom. The woman reportedly had a small cut on her leg consistent with grazing from a bullet.
8:12 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a dog at large in the 38000 block of County Road L.4. A man claimed his neighbor’s dog had attacked his family’s free-range chickens and killed one of them. Deputies were unable to find any physical evidence of the incident, and the neighbor claimed both his dogs had been with him all day. The case was closed due to lack of evidence.
9:57 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a dog bite in the 12000 block of County Road 41. A woman said two red healer dogs had started barking at her and her friends while they were walking in the area, and one of the dogs had bitten her friend on the leg. When deputies responded to the property where the woman said she had seen the dogs, they reportedly approached the patrol vehicle barking aggressively, and a deputy sprayed them with pepper spray to keep them away. Deputies were unable to immediately locate the dogs’ owner.
10:37 p.m.: Deputies responded to a wildlife complaint in the 30000 block of County Road S.7. A woman claimed a black bear had chased her goats, killed two of her chickens and caused about $100 of damage to her chicken coop. Responding deputies notified the Colorado Division of Wildlife about the problem.
Sunday, Aug. 27
6:03 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 200 block of North 15th Street, Dolores, on suspicion of violating a protection order and resisting arrest after deputies responded to a report that a woman who had a protection order against him was harassing him. Although the initial report stated the woman was on the man’s property, deputies reportedly found her at her own residence, where she said she believed the man had been spying on her. Deputies found the man walking near the woman’s house, but when they told him to stop, he reportedly started running, leading deputies on a foot chase down 15th Street. Once they reached an alley off Central Street, both deputies drew their firearms and ordered the suspect to stop. He was then arrested without further incident. The suspect reportedly said he had been watching the woman’s house for several days.
5:30 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 37000 block of County Road M on suspicion of violating a protection order after deputies responded to a report that he was at the residence of a woman who had a protection order against him.
Monday, Aug. 28
12:50 a.m.: A man was issued a summons at the Giant gas station, 2320 E. Main St., Cortez, on suspicion of failing to provide proof of insurance and driving under restraint after he was pulled over for driving without a front license plate. He reportedly refused to sign the summons and crumpled it up when the responding deputy gave it to him.
Tuesday, Aug. 29
12:27 a.m.: A man was served with a warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., for failure to appear on a charge of possessing a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.
8:52 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 28000 block of County Road K.2 on suspicion of violating a protection order after deputies responded to a report he was yelling profanities at people in the trailer park where the man who had the protection order lived. The suspect reportedly tried to pull away from the deputy who was arresting him, prompting the other deputy to assist in putting on the handcuffs. During the booking process at the jail, the man reportedly shouted that he was “the prophet of God” and that the sheriff’s laws were “from the devil.”
10:52 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 600 block of West Menefee Street, Mancos, on suspicion of violating a protection order after deputies responded to a report of a disturbance in the area. The man reportedly refused to step out of his house when deputies arrived, and another man attempted to block deputies from entering. One deputy reportedly pushed the other man to the ground and entered the house, pushing the suspect down onto a couch. A woman in the house reportedly rushed at the deputy, and his partner pushed her away. When the deputies brought the suspect outside to arrest him, the woman reportedly ran after them and tried to grab one deputy’s arm, leading him to point his stun gun at her to warn her away. On the way to the jail, one of the deputies received another call, so he tried to transfer the suspect to another patrol car, but the suspect reportedly refused to get in. A deputy exposed him to a stun gun in order to get him in the car. The man was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to the stun gun deployment and symptoms of severe intoxication.
