The What Drives You? scholarship program, funded by Cortez/Durango area Jiffy Lube franchise group Lubricar will award a $1,000 scholarship award to a Montezuma-Cortez High School student for the 2011-2012 school year.
Megan Curtis is the scholarship essay winner and will receive a $1,000 scholarship award on behalf of Jiffy Lube.
The What Drives You? scholarship program is open to all teen drivers as well as students enrolled in drivers education in Durango and Cortez area high schools.
Students are asked to submit a 500-word essay detailing what drives them now, as an opportunity to express their inner drive and ambitions.
The winning entry discussed the students desire to become an elementary school teacher and eventually the superintendent of the Cortez school district in order to help kids in Cortez get excited about education.
The scholarship is open to all students regardless of test scores or grades. Finalists are selected throughout the school year by a scholarship review committee.
Scholarship money will go directly toward secondary education in the form of college or other qualified technical or professional program chosen by each winning student.
