Small nonprofits can learn the ins and outs of financial and tax reporting obligations at a workshop led by CPA Dan Whitehead at the Mancos Grange on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
Intended for area organizations with less than $100,000 in annual gross revenue, the session will cover tax documentation and help to clarify procedures such as donation tracking and independent contractor reporting, Mary Bresson said in a news release from Mancos Valley Resources.
A question-and-answer format will help clear up IRS questions including Forms 990 and 1099.
“We’ll help steer you in the right direction so you don’t get into trouble,” said Whitehead. He has more than 30 years’ experience in public accounting and is the controller of Montezuma Water Co. and a member of the professional staff of Rogers & Co., PC, in Cortez, Bresson said.
Whitehead also belongs to the board of directors of Mancos Valley Resources, which is sponsoring the free workshop.
Attendees do not need to prepare any material in advance of the session.
“Just bring your questions,” said Whitehead.
The workshop will take place at the Mount Lookout Grange, 680 Grand Ave., on Tuesday, Oct. 24, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. There is no fee, and it is open to the public.
