At the tip-a-firefighter fundraiser at JFargo’s on Saturday, two families won the opportunity to go trick-or-treating with a firefighter.
The winning families gathered Monday at the Cortez Fire Protection District station, and the trick-or-treaters were escorted along Montezuma Avenue by firefighter Tyler Dykes.
“My husband was a volunteer firefighter for Mancos for 10 years, so we knew about the tip-a-fireman thing, so we went there in support of that. And they told us if we signed the back, we could win a trick-or-treat escort,” Karli Michael said. “We never win anything, and then they called us today, and we were like, ‘Yes!’”
The kids gathered for photos with Dykes in front of a firetruck before leaving for trick-or-treating on a rainy, autumn Halloween evening.
When asked if she was excited to win, Maddie Michael emphatically said, “Yeah! My daddy used to be a firefighter.”
