Tuesday, Nov. 21
12:59 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 2400 block of Trinity Avenue on suspicion of third-degree assault and domestic violence after police responded to a report that he was fighting with his wife. When police arrived, the wife was lying in the bedroom and would not wake up. When medics were called and the suspect left the room, the woman reportedly woke up and said she had been pretending to be asleep while her husband was in the room. She claimed he had hit her in the stomach, face and the side of her head, and that this was a regular occurrence.
11:20 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 800 block of East Montezuma Avenue on suspicion of second-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft, DUI and driving under restraint after an officer stopped her because he believed her license had been revoked. The vehicle she was driving was listed as stolen from Durango. The registered owner reportedly said he had been trying to sell the car and had allowed the suspect and another woman to take it on a test drive the previous night, but they had failed to return it by the agreed-upon time.
8:25 p.m.: A woman was arrested outside The Doobie Sisters, 695 N. Broadway, on suspicion of DUI, driving under restraint and careless driving after dispensary employees claimed she had driven up to the store and started honking repeatedly, then had gotten out of her truck to yell at an employee. She was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication. She reportedly kicked and hit her head against the walls of the patrol car while she was being transported to jail from the hospital, and continued to struggle and yell at people to “fight her” throughout the booking process.
9:22 p.m.: A man was arrested at Mesa Verde Inn, 640 S. Broadway, on suspicion of disturbing the peace after motel employees claimed he had caused noise complaints among other guests and, when confronted by staff, had lain down and beat his fists against the ground while yelling. When police confronted him, he reportedly continued to yell and told them to shoot him. The man was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to suspected intoxication.
10:13 p.m.: A man was arrested at National 9 Motel, 301 W. Main St., on suspicion of disturbing the peace after another man claimed he had tried to slash him with a knife while saying the man was the devil. The suspect reportedly told police he needed to leave Cortez because it was full of “evil spirits.”
Wednesday, Nov. 22
3:13 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 300 block of South Broadway on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge and on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. A bag of meth and several spoons of the type used in drug consumption were found in the man’s vehicle.
11:22 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 400 block of West Third Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge after he reported he had been in a verbal fight with his girlfriend.
Thursday, Nov. 23
3:21 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 1300 block of Acoma Street on a La Plata County warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge.
11:55 a.m.: A man was issued a summons at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, on suspicion of violating a protection order after hospital staff reported he was there with the woman who had the protection order, who had just given birth to his child.
2:27 p.m.: A man was issued a summons on suspicion of trespassing at Giant gas station, 2320 E. Main St.
3:52 p.m.: A man and a woman were arrested at Econolodge, 2020 E. Main St., after police responded to a report that they were fighting. The man was arrested on suspicion of two protection order violations and a two warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges. The woman was also arrested on a warrant.
Friday, Nov. 24
2:51 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of North Harrison Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge and on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. When police contacted him about the warrant, he reportedly asked if they would give some of his belongings to a friend, and handed them a bag of meth and a glass pipe from his pockets. A flashlight in his possession also reportedly contained meth.
3:39 p.m.: A woman was served with a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
7:39 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 1700 block of East Main Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor and on suspicion of driving without a license and failing to obey a traffic signal.
7:40 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 400 block of South Oak Street on two warrants for a local felony and a local misdemeanor, and on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and operating a vehicle with defective taillights. Two containers of meth and a jar of marijuana were found in his vehicle.
Saturday, Nov. 25
1:57 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 700 block of South Broadway on suspicion of DUI, weaving and making a left turn from the wrong lane. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.
10:58 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 400 block of East Second Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local felony charge after the vehicle in which he was a passenger was pulled over for not having operational license plate lights. The driver was issued a warning for the traffic violation.
Sunday, Nov. 26
11:19 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 1600 block of East Main Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.
3:21 p.m.: A man was arrested in the City Market parking lot, 508 E. Main St., on suspicion of third-degree assault and obstructing telephone service after witnesses reported he had grabbed a woman by the neck and shaken her after she fell out of a truck bed and hurt her arm. The woman also said he had taken her cell phone when she tried to call police.
6:49 p.m.: Two men were arrested in the 200 block of West Seventh Street after police responded to a report of a disturbance between them. One man claimed that the other had come to his house with a knife and threatened to kill him, after which he chased him around the street, and the other man’s sister had driven her vehicle between them to break it up. The sister and another woman claimed the two men had done about $100 and $500 in damage to their vehicles, respectively, during the fight. The man with the knife was arrested on suspicion of a protection order violation, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, and the other man was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
Monday, Nov. 27
12:28 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 1 block of North Mildred Road on suspicion of DUI, driving under restraint and speeding. She was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication. She reportedly acted aggressively and yelled racist slurs at officers throughout the arrest.
