Thursday, Nov. 30

4:07 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 18000 block of U.S. Highway 491 on suspicion of driving under restraint after he was involved in a traffic accident with a semi truck that was driving the opposite direction on the highway. The suspect reportedly had a split lip, and the front end of his vehicle sustained extensive damage, but no other injuries were reported in the crash.

1:20 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of harassment at Dolores High School, 1301 Central Ave., Dolores. A man reported that a student had snapped a rubber band on another student’s back. The responding deputy spoke with the student and advised him that such actions could border on harassment. The student reportedly promised to do better.

12:33 p.m.: A man was arrested on suspicion of a parole violation and possession of a controlled substance near the intersection of Mike Wash and Morning Star Lane, Towaoc, after Bureau of Indian Affairs agents pulled over his vehicle for a lane usage violation. Because the man was not Native American, the agents handed over the investigation to the sheriff’s office. A syringe, two small bags of meth and a container of marijuana concentrate were found in his pockets, and a search through the Cortez Police Department database reportedly revealed he was on parole with multiple non-extraditable warrants.

1:52 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of fraud at the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St. A woman claimed someone had used her checking account to purchase items worth a total of $176.55 on the internet. The case remains under investigation.

11:43 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 200 block of South Seventh Street, Dolores, on a La Plata County warrant for failure to appear and on suspicion of arson and obstructing a peace officer after neighbors reported he had set fire to a tree near a garage. Responding deputies extinguished the fire, but the suspect reportedly ran and hid in the bushes on Railroad Avenue before they could arrest him. Deputies eventually caught up with him in his home on Seventh Street. An estimated $150 of damage was done to the tree. The man was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail, because he appeared to be hallucinating.

Friday, Dec. 1

8:01 a.m.: A man was served with a warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

2:06 p.m.: A man was turned in by a bail bondsman and arrested at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a warrant for failure to comply.

5:31 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of property damage in the 7000 block of County Road 22.9. A man claimed his fence gate had been damaged three days before and his neighbor had seen a Fed Ex truck back into it. When deputies contacted Fed Ex, a subcontractor said the company planned to pay for the damages.

6:13 p.m.: A man was served with a warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

Saturday, Dec. 2

6:37 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a disturbance at Woody’s Gas Station, 174 U.S. Highway 160. An employee claimed a man with no shoes on had knocked on his door wanting to be let in before the store opened, and had become upset when he refused. Deputies contacted the man and transported him to Southwest Memorial Hospital after he requested assistance. He reportedly said he was trying to walk to the Crossroads Detox Unit in Durango.

5:47 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 42000 block of County Road N. A woman claimed she and her boyfriend had seen two men in law enforcement jackets standing over a woman who was sitting in the mud in Mancos State Park. Responding deputies did not find anyone in the area.

6:55 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of property damage in the 29000 block of U.S. Highway 160. A man claimed he had heard gunshots in the area about 4:30 p.m., and later noticed a small hole in the window of a camper on his property, consistent with a small projectile. The case remains under investigation.

Sunday, Dec. 3

11:26 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of an animal bite in the 36000 block of County Road K.3. A woman claimed her daughter had been bitten by a dog her family was breeding with their dog. The dog was reportedly up to date on its shots, and the woman did not press charges.

10:29 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 15000 block of County Road W on suspicion of third-degree assault and domestic violence after his girlfriend claimed he had pushed her, causing her to hit her head against a cabinet, because he said a steak she had cooked was too rare. The man was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication, but reportedly refused to answer any questions from either the hospital staff or law enforcement personnel. The woman went to the hospital on her own for treatment of a head injury.

Monday, Dec. 4

6:20 a.m.: A man turned himself in at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., and was arrested on a warrant issued Nov. 30 for intimidating a witness, violation of a protection order, harassment and domestic violence. A woman claimed the man had been contacting her through phone calls and SnapChat messages since August, in violation of her protection order against him. She also claimed he had met with her twice and threatened to take her child away if she didn’t testify to planting evidence in a criminal case against him.

12:26 p.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 12000 block of County Road 25 on suspicion of speeding. He was issued a corrected summons later in the day that added the charge of reckless driving.

7:07 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a missing person in the county. A woman reported her juvenile daughter had been missing for more than 24 hours, and had been posting pictures on SnapChat of herself drinking in Durango with an unknown man. The juvenile was found by her mother in Durango at 12:06 a.m. the following morning.

11:19 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 100 block of South Second Street, Dolores, on suspicion of obstructing a highway and disorderly conduct after a neighbor reported he was singing and yelling loudly while walking down the middle of the street on his way from Chavolito’s restaurant. He had reportedly received several verbal warnings for the same behavior in the past. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

Tuesday, Dec. 5

10:31 a.m.: A woman was issued a summons at Ute Mountain Casino, 3 Weeminuche Drive, Towaoc, on suspicion of false reporting to authorities after deputies responded to a report of theft at the casino. The woman reportedly told deputies a man had taken her work tablet, a laptop, two pairs of jeans, a pair of boots and $150 in cash. When deputies contacted the man, he reportedly took them to the room he was sharing with the woman and showed them the allegedly stolen property sitting on the bed. When a responding deputy told the woman he was going to cite her for false reporting, she reportedly began yelling and trying to get away, leading the deputy to force her to the ground and handcuff her until he was done filling out the summons. She was treated by the casino’s on-site emergency personnel for a bloody nose that resulted from the struggle.

11:55 a.m.: A man was remanded to custody from Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St.

12:18 p.m.: The same man was remanded to custody from Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St.

2:36 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of trespassing in the 22000 block of County Road N. A woman claimed that while she was away from home between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. that day, someone had attached a garden hose to the water spigot at the back of her garage and flooded her back deck and flower bed. She reportedly said she did not want to pursue an investigation into the incident, but wanted it recorded by law enforcement.

Wednesday, Dec. 6

10:34 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity in Cortez. A juvenile reported he had traded an adult $100 and a rifle in exchange for a handgun, but later realized the handgun’s serial number had been filed off. Deputies reportedly found that the man who traded the gun to the boy was a convicted felon who was not allowed to possess firearms. They also told the juvenile and his father that he was not old enough to possess firearms. The handgun was stored as evidence.

11:14 a.m.: A man was arrested on a warrant at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St.

2:43 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of theft at the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office, 730 E. Driscoll St. A man reported someone had forged and attempted to cash a check from his account. The case remains under investigation.

2:49 p.m.: A man was arrested on a warrant in the 5000 block of County Road 25.

8:39 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 11000 block of County Road 25 on suspicion of third-degree assault, harassment and domestic violence after her husband claimed she had pushed and slapped him while ordering him to leave their house. The woman was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to suspected alcohol and marijuana intoxication. She reportedly shouted racial slurs at the arresting deputy while being transported to the hospital.

Thursday, Dec. 7

9:41 a.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 3000 block of U.S. Highway 160 on suspicion of reckless driving and failing to obtain a port of entry clearance after two witnesses claimed he had forced them to move into oncoming traffic while passing them in a semi truck. A Colorado State Patrol trooper also told deputies the man had not stopped at a port of entry as required by semi truck drivers.
