Abatement of the retired Montezuma-Cortez High School continues, according to a news release dated Dec. 8.
According to the release, Colorado Hazard Control is using a dustless method similar to remove the wall coating. The resulting material is then sealed in two layers of plastic and transported to an Environmental Protection Agency-approved landfill in Utah.
The process began at the west end of the building.
Abatement and demolition are scheduled for summer 2018.
In an attached news release, Colorado Hazard Control announced that it is offering free training for potential employees. These workers would help with the abatement of the retired M-CHS high school.
The free 40-hour class will be held Dec. 18-22 at the RE-1 central administration building, 400 N. Elm St., according to a news release. It is a first class that must be completed by applicants. Then, applicants must complete a state test and pass a physical and fitness test to be considered for employment with Colorado Hazard Control.
“Wages for abatement techs begin at approximately $15 per hour, and Colorado Hazard Control offers competitive benefits after 90 days of employment,” according to the news release.
The class is limited to 10, although a second class may be opened if enough individuals are interested.
