There have been changes to our newspapers to continue the business of producing news. Most recently, we consolidated three newspapers into one to cover our whole county. We have changed to two editions per week and built a brand-new website for online access to stories. The-Journal.com and The Journal Facebook page are new online options that continue the tradition of local journalism for everyone. With each marked change, we see our readership grow, and advertisers’ participation continue. We now have 75,000 online users a month and 3,700 newspaper subscribers.
While news media can be loved, hated, dismissed and avoided, it is and will remain the hallmark of a democratic society, and its value is steadfast. I respect the work our editor and journalists contribute to our large county and its various communities, and I am thankful to work with them as publisher to support our mission.
Adding a paid online subscription allows The Journal to publish more content from our team of local journalists, who are committed to creating a source for important, newsworthy stories and information.
Our new online subscription will give you access, every day, to the news and information that keep you connected to the place you live. You may choose from among several options: $52 a year, a $4.99 a month and 75 cents a day. You may also subscribe to a Print Plus package that gives you a newspaper and online access for $63 a year. Current print subscribers will receive an online subscription at no charge for the remainder of their subscription. Non-subscribers may read five stories per month at The-Journal.com.
We will continue to publish a printed newspaper, as we have for 130 years.
Our advertisers will have options for various online and print advertising packages to promote their business to our readers.
We are your community newspaper, and along with our team of journalists, it is our subscribers, readers and advertisers who make it possible to be here. If you are not currently a subscriber of The Journal, I invite you to sign up and read us at The-Journal.com. We kick off our digital subscriptions on Jan. 22.
And thank you to our current subscribers, readers and advertisers. We appreciate your business.
