My oh my is this weekend going to busy. To start, about 300 firefighters from across three states will arrive in town today for the annual Tri-State Firemens Association Convention. This is the first time Dolores has hosted this event since 1980. We are so incredibly lucky to have this gathering in Dolores. Thanks to all the work you do firefighters and welcome to Dolores.
Also this weekend is the Durango Kennel Clubs Agility Trials. This is the third year this event has been held in Dolores and it is a blast to watch. Organizers ask that you leave you noncompeting dogs at home, but enjoy the show. Competition starts at 2 p.m. today, Friday, and goes from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
Also this weekend is the Montezuma County Fair, be sure to check out the schedule for that in todays paper.

Customers at the Dolores Food Market were greeted with a bit of painters tape this week as the store was being painted. Owner Taz Vass said that the colors of the grocery store will stay the same. Customers were impacted very little by the painting.

Because of the fire ban earlier this year, the Rico fireworks show was cancelled. The very dry early spring and winter made the risk of setting off fireworks and possibly starting a fire too high. But Mother Nature has blessed us with significant monsoon rains and unless conditions change again, I am told that the Rico Fire Department plans to set off its fireworks over Labor Day. Fun!

I got to try out some paddle boarding again last week and I was shocked at just how many others were hopping on board (pardon the pun) this new sport. There were several down at the Big Bend at McPhee, trying their hands at walking on water. If you are curious too, give Kokopelli Bike and Board a call, 565-4408. They have a limited few boards available for rent.
When I went last week, the lake was as smooth as glass, the temperature was perfect. Coasting over smooth water into the setting sun has a way of melting all your troubles away, I highly recommend it.

I am told that Dr. Amy Loschert of Dolores will begin practicing right here in town. Loschert is a naturopathic medical doctor and has practiced in Arizona for many years. She stopped by with her cute baby to give the great news. Stay tuned.
