Pet of the Week

Pet of the Week

Rez dogs rule ... it’s true; they are smart, resourceful, and real survivors. When they do find a home, they sure know it — and are grateful companions for the rest of their lives. Their joy is something to see. This beautiful russet brindle mixed-breed is a young adult male, about 1 or 2 years old. He was one of some strays rescued by tourists near Kayenta, Ariz. He is very faithful, sweet, and terrific with other dogs and kids. He’s a very happy dog, too, but as a Rez dog, it is unknown how he is with livestock or cats — but those who has owned one have said that they are the best dogs ever. This guy deserves a chance at a good life, and will make a loyal friend. He and the other lonely pets at the shelter really need a cuddle and a fresh start, including several loving adult cats and lots of kittens. Please Don’t Litter — there are many low-cost options available for fixing your pets to stop the endless cycle of homeless animals in Montezuma County — call the shelter for options available locally. The shelter is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on alternate Fridays. They will be open this Friday. They could use donations of non-clumping cat litter, plain bleach, liquid laundry soap, paper towels, dish soap, and large-size rawhide chews — the homeless dogs really look forward to working on one each afternoon. All pet adoptions at the shelter now include having the new addition to your family fixed and microchipped. For more information, call the shelter at 565-4910. To view more animals, visit www.petfinder.com or www.petango.com (enter 81321 zip code for each) or www.cityofcortez.com/government/animal_shelter.
