Hitting the mat at the Screaming Eagle Invitational in Paonia on Jan. 20, the Mancos High School wrestling team enjoyed mixed results.
Among the most impressive performances by a Bluejays wrestler was that of Breccen Morelli, who won four of his five matches in the 145-pound division and finished third overall. Morelli’s lone defeat came at the hands Paonia High School’s Clay Campbell in the semifinals. Morelli recovered to pin Norwood’s Riley Wilson in the third-place match.
Also on the podium for Mancos was 195-pound senior Kaleb Hargraves, who won two of five matches and finished sixth overall. His victories came over Rangely’s Dalton Dembowski and Cedaredge’s Pedro Madaleno.
Other wrestlers competing for Mancos included Colt Fury, who finished 2-2 in the 132-pound bracket, Ty Everett, who finished 0-2 at 106 pounds, and Lot Martin, who finished 0-2 at 113 pounds.
Andrew Ruatti finished 0-2 at 138 pounds, and Cameron Fury lost both of his matches at 182-pounds. Mancos placed 14th as a team in the 21-team tournament, which was won by Paonia.
Next up for Mancos will be the Butch Melton Invitational on Jan. 27 in Ignacio.
