The Dolores Mountain Quilt Guild is having their 2012 Quilt Show on Aug. 24 and 25 at the Dolores Community Center. It will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and 9 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. It will include over 100 quilts exhibited and judged by the public, a beautiful queen size raffle quilt called Follow the Leader, and lots of vendors with fabric, patterns, notions and sewing machines, boutique and handmade items and quilts for sale. There will be door prizes for the attendees. Tickets are available at the door for $3 per person 16 years and older.
Peggy Littlejohn, from Mancos, has been a member of the Dolores Quilt Guild for many years and has been quilting for 15 years. Ever since I retired, I have been working on quilts, Littlejohn said.
She has displayed many of her beautiful quilted wall hangings, called Dreamscapes, but also loves to make larger quilts. She will be entering several quilts in the Dolores quilt show, including one that is a twisted log cabin design. They are an incredible group of women, Littlejohn said of the Dolores group. They spend their meetings exchanging patterns, helping each other out, making quilts for many local charities and causes, and listening to various presentations on quilting and sewing. Each December, guild members also individually create more than 80 handmade and stuffed Christmas stockings for area needy children for a total of 320 to date.
Anyone, she said, can come to the meetings, held on the first Tuesday of each month at 9:45 a.m.
