Three adults and a baby were transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital Thursday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 160 at the County Road G intersection.
The Cortez Fire Protection District, Southwest Health System Ambulance, Colorado State Patrol, Montezuma County sheriff deputies and a traffic control company all responded to the accident, which occurred about 3:30 p.m. Shawn Bittle, assistant fire chief, reported the crash was caused by one of the vehicles running a red light.
Colorado State Patrol Capt. Adrian Driscoll said one driver, Christine Lehi of Towaoc, complained of neck, back and chest pain after the accident. The other driver, Marshall Alambert of Shiprock, was also transported to the hospital, along with an adult passenger and a 1-year-old child. Driscoll said the child had been released from the hospital by 5 p.m.
Both vehicles, a Honda Civic and an SUV, sustained heavy front-end damage and were towed from the scene.
The wreck was still under investigation as of 5 p.m., Driscoll said, because both drivers claimed they had a green light at the intersection.
“We’ll be talking to witnesses and pressing charges based on what they tell us,” he said.
Northbound traffic on U.S. 160 was temporarily diverted to Road G.
