Fire started in trash pile near restaurant

Cortez firefighters put out a small fire that started in a pile of rubbish in the field behind the J. Fargo’s parking lot, 1209 E. Main St., just after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Cortez Fire Protection District and Cortez Police Department responded, and the flames were extinguished within about 20 minutes. First responders said they weren’t sure what had started the fire.
