The overall winning two-person team of the second annual Sports Law Negotiation Competition included a former Montezuma-Cortez High School graduate.
The team from Oklahoma City Law School that consisted of Jarin Giesler and Cameron Feil claimed the overall title in the competition that was held in San Diego on Sept. 28-30. Giesler is a 2005 M-CHS graduate. He earned a football scholarship as a long snapper at Delaware State University, where he graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Political Science in 2009.
Giesler also received an Academic Achievement Award for being ranked No. 1 with the highest GPA in the department.
A total of 40 teams representing some of the top law schools across the nation came to TJSL to compete and demonstrate their negotiating skills. The panel of judges in the final four was distinguished and included San Diego City Attorney Jan Goldsmith, Federal Magistrate and TJSL Trustee William McCurine, and Major League Hall of Famer and San Diego Padres Executive Vice-President Dave Winfield.
Competition began on Saturday morning and ran through the entire day as the 40 teams were narrowed to the final four. Saturdays highlight was the keynote address by legendary sports agent Leigh Steinberg, whose career inspired the Tom Cruise Movie Jerry Maguire.
Giesler is in his third year of law school at Oklahoma City University and will graduate in May 2013. Recently, Giesler started an athletic representation company named Giesler Sports World-Wide. Upon completing his Juris Doctorate he plans to take the NFLPA Contract Exam, as well as the Arizona Bar Exam.
