The Dolores volleyball team can thank rival Mancos.
On Tuesday night, Mancos won at then first-place Norwood, 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-21). Norwoods defeat dropped it to 10-2 in San Juan Basin League play.
Dolores finished its league slate 11-2, winning the SJBL regular season title outright. The Lady Bears (15-4 overall) had already clinched the No. 1-seed in Saturdays 2A SJBL district tournament at Ignacio High School. But in the 2A/1A SJBL, theres no question now who is No. 1.
Norwood will be the top seed in the 1A District 1 tourney at Olathe High School today.
In the 2A SJBL tourney, Dolores posted an 8-0 record against Mancos (No. 3), Ignacio (No. 4), Nucla (No. 5) and Ridgway (No. 6).
However, one team in the regular season gave the Lady Bears fits. Dolores two league losses came at the hands of the second seeded Telluride Miners (13-6, 9-5).
The Lady Bears play Ridgway and tourney host Ignacio on Saturday at 9 a.m. and noon.
The top three teams at districts advance to regionals. Whoever wins the district tourney will host regionals next week.
The district championship is at 3 p.m.
