Veterans recognized for Memorial Day

Veterans were honored for Memorial Day during a presentation by Montezuma County commissioners. From left are military veterans Billye Morgan, David Johnson, Rick Torres, Rick Rohsner and Mike Pasquin. The county is home to 2,400 veterans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

On Memorial Day, May 28, there will be a ceremony at the Cortez Cemetery at 6 a.m. for veterans then a breakfast at the American Legion, 320 N. Harrison. In Dolores, a ceremony takes place at the Dolores Community Center, 400 Riverside Ave. starting about 9:45 a.m.. A cannon will be fired. In Rico, a ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the cemetery.

6 a.m.: Cortez Cemetery ceremony


7 a.m.: Veterans Breakfast at the American Legion, 320 N. Harrison St.


9:45 a.m.: Dolores Community Center ceremony, 400 Riverside Ave. A cannon will be fired.


11:30 a.m.: Rico Cemetery ceremony.
