Since we constantly pray for peace in the world for all of Gods children (all of us), the United Methodist Church in Dolores (North 8th Street) decided to build a Prayer Garden in front of the church for the community to come and use at any time for personal and/or worldwide prayer.
On Sept. 30 after the worship service the congregation moved outside to dedicate the Prayer Garden and its focal point, a Peace Pole. The encryption on the Peace Pole says May Peace Prevail on Earth in the four primary languages of the Four Corners region: English, Ute, Navajo, and Spanish.
District Superintendent of the Utah/Western Colorado District of the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Methodist Church, Rev. Sione Tukutau, was in attendance and assisted Pastor Rick Carpenter in leading the congregation in a time of dedication, praying for peace in the hearts of every person in our church, our community, our nation and the world.
Our prayer is that the community will visit this holy space, and pause and reflect and pray for those things that are meaningful for them. And before they leave, may everyone also recite the prayer thats on the peace pole: May Peace Prevail on Earth. After all, isnt that what we all want in our lives, the lives of our children, and everyone everywhere? May it be so.
