2:09 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 100 block of South Elm Street on a warrant for failure to appear. He reportedly gave police a false name, then gave his real name after they asked him to spell it. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail, due to intoxication.
1:44 p.m.: Police responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash in the Cortez Plaza parking lot, 2200 E. Main St. One car reportedly rear-ended the other at a stop sign, damaging both vehicles.
2:56 p.m.: A man was arrested in the alley near Montezuma Park, 3 W. Montezuma Ave., on a warrant and on suspicion of DUI and driving under restraint after police responded to a report that he was harassing guests outside the Cortez Public Library. There were reportedly five empty beer cans and a mostly-empty bottle of vodka visible in his vehicle when he was pulled over.
3:59 p.m.: A woman reported her son’s BMX bike, valued at $500, was stolen while he was eating at McDonald’s, 1322 E. Main St., about 9:15 p.m. on June 25. The case remains under investigation.
7:48 p.m.: A man was arrested in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on suspicion of possessing alcohol in the park. He was medically cleared due to intoxication.
9:12 p.m.: A man was cited on suspicion of destroying public property in the 300 block of South Market Street after witnesses said he had damaged part of a fence with a baseball bat.
10:44 p.m.: A man was arrested on a municipal warrant in City Park, 802 E. Main St. He was medically cleared due to intoxication.
Thursday, June 28
8:01 a.m.: Police responded to a traffic accident in the 1500 block of East Main Street. According to the vehicle owners, an unattended Forest Service vehicle had rolled and collided with an unattended vehicle before stopping atop a Safeway sign. Neither driver was cited.
3:17 p.m.: A man and a woman were arrested in the 6000 block of County Road 24.3 on U.S. Marshal Service warrants for amphetamine possession.
4:37 p.m.: A lock on the fence at the Dolores State Bank repossessed vehicles lot at was cut, but nothing was missing. The case remains under investigation.
6:01 p.m.: A woman reported that her cell phone went missing from the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St. about 5:20 p.m. The Samsung Galaxy Express 3 was valued at $110. The case remains under investigation.
6:06 p.m.: Two men were arrested near the Cortez water dock, 20 N. Park St., on suspicion of fighting. One man reportedly had fresh cuts and bruises on his face. Both were medically cleared due to intoxication.
8:48 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of West Fourth Street on suspicion of third-degree assault, domestic violence, a protection order violation and violation of bail bond conditions after police responded to a report that he was fighting with his wife, who had a protection order against him. A witness said he had seen the man throw the woman into a bush and start choking her. The suspect was medically cleared due to intoxication.
10:48 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 2100 block of South Broadway on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, failing to drive in a single lane and driving under restraint. A female passenger was also arrested on a warrant.
Friday, June 29
2:07 a.m.: A man was arrested at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, on suspicion of third-degree assault after police responded to a panic alarm in the emergency room. When police arrived, the man was reportedly trying to fight hospital staff members while a security guard held him down. He was medically cleared due to intoxication.
10:09 a.m.: Police responded to a report of graffiti at RC Southwest Development, 311 N. Broadway. The business owner said it would cost $400 to repair the damage. The case remains under investigation.
12:38 p.m.: Police responded to a report of threats at Aarons Rent-a-Center, 1620 E. Main St. An employee said a car had followed him for a while after he left paperwork at a house in Arizona where a customer was late on payments. The next day, he said, he had received a phone call from the homeowner saying he would shoot the employee if he returned to his house. Police recommended the company take the dispute over the late payments to civil court, and advised the employee not to go back to the Arizona residence.
3:32 p.m.: A woman was arrested at City Market, 508 E. Main St., for disturbing the peace after employees reported she yelled profanities at customers. She was medically cleared before being taken to jail.
7:28 p.m.: A man reported his mountain bike, valued at $400, had been stolen from his backyard in the 300 block of South Harrison Street. He said he suspected a man who approached him multiple times about selling the bike, but police were unable to contact the man. The case remains under investigation.
8:06 p.m.: Police responded to a report of an assault in the 2200 block of East Main Street. A man reported he had gotten into an argument with two other men in the field behind West Slope Liquors, and they had pushed him to the ground and kicked him until he passed out. He reportedly had a bloody nose and was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police were unable to locate the suspects.
8:35 p.m.: A man was arrested at West Slope Liquors, 2212 E. Main St., on suspicion of violating bail bond conditions after police conducted a welfare check on him because he was sleeping outside the store. He was medically cleared due to intoxication.
10:29 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 1700 block of North Dolores Road on suspicion of resisting arrest and obstructing an officer after police went to a house where they believed a man with Durango Police felony warrants was located. Officers told the three occupants of the house to come outside and get on their knees, due to reports the man was armed and dangerous. One man did not immediately comply, and an officer started to handcuff him. He reportedly resisted until a K9 bit his right arm. He was treated on-site for the injury. Police did not find the man with the Durango warrants.
Saturday, June 30
12:35 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 100 block of South Washington Street on a felony warrant.
10:07 a.m.: A driver rear-ended a vehicle while turning onto Main Street at Ash Street.
2:47 p.m.: A man was arrested in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on suspicion of violating bond conditions. He was medically cleared due to intoxication.
6:48 p.m.: Police responded to a report of theft at Family Dollar, 324 S. Broadway. A juvenile reported her bag, valued at $50, had been stolen after she left it at the door to comply with the store’s security policy. Security footage reportedly showed an older woman take the bag about 6:05 p.m. It reportedly contained a Bluetooth speaker, a pair of headphones, a set of makeup brushes, a pair of shorts and a swimsuit. The investigation continues.
7:59 p.m.: A woman was arrested in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on a municipal warrant and on suspicion of an open container violation, possession of alcohol in the park and violation of bond conditions.
10:49 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of North Beech Street on two felony warrants after he was pulled over for driving without a rear license plate light and because his plates didn’t match police files.
Sunday, July 1
3:39 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 20 block of South Harrison Street on suspicion of violating a protection order. He was medically cleared due to intoxication.
1:34 p.m.: A woman was cited on suspicion of indecent exposure at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., after police contacted her for lying on the ground with her pants down.
8:38 p.m.: A man was cited on suspicion of shoplifting at City Market, 508 E. Main St., after a Montezuma County Sheriff’s deputy reported he had stolen a bottle of chocolate milk, valued at $4.29.
9:18 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 2200 block of East Main Street on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se and speeding after she was pulled over for reportedly driving 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. She reportedly drove for about six blocks before pulling over. She was medically cleared due to intoxication.
9:42 p.m.: A woman was arrested outside McDonald’s, 1322 E. Main St., on a municipal warrant and a Montezuma County misdemeanor warrant.
Monday, July 2
12:51 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of East Main Street on suspicion of driving under restraint as a habitual traffic offender.
1:40 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 400 block of West Seventh Street on suspicion of disturbing the peace after a woman reported he had been yelling and banging on the door to her house, after she kicked him out during an argument with her daughter. While being transported to the hospital for a medical clearance, the man reportedly banged his head in a patrol car, resulting in a cut on his forehead. He was medically cleared due to the cut and intoxication.
3:05 p.m.: A woman was arrested on a felony warrant in the 400 block of West Seventh Street.
9:06 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 300 block of West Fifth Street on a Montezuma County misdemeanor warrant.
9:26 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 400 block of East Main Street on suspicion of violating a protection order after a police officer reportedly saw him walk out of the Cork & Bottle Liquor Store with a sack of alcohol. The man’s protection order prohibited him from possessing or consuming alcohol.
Tuesday, July 3
12:09 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 1300 block of East Main Street on suspicion of violating a protection order after his ex-wife reported he had driven past Taco Bell, where she works, several times and walked onto the property.
3:39 a.m.: A man was arrested at the Giant gas station, 921 E. Main St., on a Montezuma County warrant for failure to comply. He was medically cleared due to intoxication.
3:56 a.m.: A male inmate was served with a municipal warrant for failure to appear at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
7:45 a.m.: A woman was arrested at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, on a Montezuma County misdemeanor warrant.
8:05 a.m.: Police responded to a report of shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. Employees reported a man had stolen a car seat, valued at $199, and left in a car with a New Mexico license plate. The case remains under investigation.
2:56 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 1400 block of East Montezuma Avenue on suspicion of DUI, displaying fictitious tabs, an open container violation and failing to signal after Taco Bell employees reported he appeared to be intoxicated in the drive-thru. He reportedly told officers he had a weapon and started to reach for it despite commands to put his hands on the steering wheel. An officer pulled him out of the vehicle and found a multi-tool on his belt. He was medically cleared due to intoxication.
6:22 p.m.: A man was arrested on a municipal warrant outside City Market, 508 E. Main St., after police contacted him lying face down in the parking lot. He was medically cleared due to severe intoxication.
9:21 p.m.: A man was arrested outside City Market, 508 E. Main St., on a La Plata County misdemeanor warrant after police found him and another man sleeping in an alley and told them to leave.
Wednesday, July 4
12:27 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 2300 block of East Main Street on a Montezuma County felony warrant and suspicion of driving under restraint and driving with defective brake lights.
8:30 p.m.: A man was arrested in City Park, 803 E. Montezuma Ave., on a Montezuma County warrant for failure to comply after police contacted him for lying on the ground with no shirt. He was medically cleared due to intoxication.
9:17 p.m.: A man was arrested in Centennial Park, 800 E. Montezuma Ave., on a Montezuma County felony warrant after police found him lying face down near the restrooms. He was medically cleared due to intoxication.
